On January 31 2008 TRAM SA was honored with the special award of  TUV HELLAS for its social contribution, for the quality level of the services provided, and the continuous effort for improvement. It is worth noting that TUV HELLAS is an Inspection and Certification Organization, member of the quite prominent TUV NORD Group of Germany.

  • Among the criteria that were taken into consideration for this recognition were, the excellent level of service provided by front line employees of the company(Customer Service, Call Center, ticket desk employees, operators, inspectors, part time employees), in addition to a series of competitive advantages, Specifically: The high safety level that TRAM SA offers to the passenger public, staffed with a well organized department of specially trained resources for the supervision of the network, the station and the vehicles. In fact during the last three years, in collaboration with the police authorities, many criminals have been arrested, while incidents of robbery and violence have been avoided. A recent success of the Department of Inspection, Facilities and Network Supervision has been the arrest of a gang of pick pocket thieves, while the immediate objectives are to handle incidents of destruction of the bus stops and vehicles with graffity, and robbery of the Automatic Ticket Machines.
  • Ease of transportation for the handicapped and Physically Challenged persons (elderly people, women with carts etc), since special considerations have been made for access ramps, isles for the blind, no steps, special seats and sound alerts.
  • Transportation of bicycles without limitations as to the day or time of day.
  • Ability to transport small pets when placed in a special basket of 70Χ40Χ50, and allowing the boarding of guide dogs for the blind.
  • Extended hours of operation. Specifically the tram operates 20 hour per day while on Fridays and Saturdays it operates on a 24 hour basis, thus facilitating the transportation of the citizens, contributing to the improvement of traffic conditions, but also the avoidance of accidents due to the dangerous combination of alcohol consumption and driving. Finally within the next two months, focused on better servicing the passenger public, TRAM SA  will be installing the precise timetables of the routes, initially at the terminal stations and more centrally located stops.
TRAM SA also received the significant award “Environmental Project” during the prominent awards ceremony for Sensitivity towards the Environment “Ecopolis 200” organized each year by the Non-profit environmental organization «Ecocity». TRAM SA was awarded for its integrated, focused and systematic efforts in handling vibration and noise pollution in ten (10) suburbs of the capital where the tram goes through, in addition to the areas where future expansion is anticipated.

Specifically during the construction and operational phase of the Athens tram- for the first time in Greece- an integrated environmental approach was followed for the development , diffusion and handling of vibration and noise pollution. For the purposes of the specific program, TRAM SA collaborates with the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly, while together they participate in the European program Q-City (Quite City Transport), which aims in the development of the technological infrastructure for the effective handling of noise pollution.

The corporate responsibility of TRAM S.A. is widely recognized by a number of organizations such as the N. Smyrni Bocage Friends Club (SAFAN), which honoured TRAM S.A. for its invaluable contribution to the athleticism and the life in the city of N. Smyrni in general.
